Many people would probably overlook Denmark as the destination for their next vacation. However, this might be a big mistake. Denmark is a very small country, with a population of only 5 million people. It might be a tiny country, but the history and events that have happened here through the years are huge.
Denmark is one of the world’s oldest monarchies, which also means that the history of this country goes back thousands of years. Therefore, you can’t go to Denmark without visiting some of the many old and well-preserved castles. These would without a doubt amaze most people, and it is unique to experience such a great mark of history.
Copenhagen would be a great place to start off your vacation. Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark, and here you can experience “Amalienborg” which is the castle where the Danish monarch lives. Here you will be able to see a big piece of Danish history, the characteristic soldiers that guard the castle and you might even be lucky enough to see the Queen of Denmark.
Besides this, there are many other exciting things to see in Copenhagen, which makes it the perfect place to visit if you want to experience Denmark. You can try all kinds of foods and restaurants, from Michelin, praised and world famous Noma, to small cosy places in the beautiful streets of Copenhagen. Something completely different to see in the capital is Freetown Christiania. Christiania is always worth a visit. Here you can stroll and explore alternative lifestyles and architecture, see the colorful murals and different art styles, shop in the small stalls or visit one of the area’s cafes and enjoy a cold beer, a cup of coffee or a meal.
If you want to experience something else than the city life, you don’t have to travel far to explore the pretty nature of Denmark. You won’t experience any grand mountains or waterfalls, but what you will see is a landscape of soft hills covered in grass and trees, old beautiful mills and the simple but yet spectacular nature of Denmark.
