Are you planning a trip to the Czech Republic? Here are some useful traveling tips and general information when arranging your visit.

The Czech Republic is a nation state in central Europe. It is bordered by Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. Although the population of the Czech Republic is a whopping 10.5 million, it is also ranked 10th for being the most peaceful country. Prague is the capital and largest city in the Republic.

Are you planning on renting a car? Don’t forget that you are in Europe and most countries drive on the right side of the road, including the Czech Republic. Make sure you put your headlights on when driving whether in the daytime or evening as this is the law. If you are travelling with children, make sure they meet the required weight for sitting without a car seat. Between the months of November and March, plan for snow and rent a car with proper snow tires.

Before traveling anywhere, you must have a valid and up to date passport. Some countries require that you have a visitor’s visa. Check to see if your country requires that you apply for a visa or not.
The Czech Republic accepts euros at most places, but it is handy to have local currency. International cards are accepted at many locations as well (Visa, MasterCard, Cirrus etc.).

There are a variety of places to stay in the Czech Republic. If you want luxurious accommodations, this country is famous for its castles and chateaux. If you are looking for something a little more affordable, there are many hostels, hotels, and camping sites available. There are even such things as ‘botels’ that you can stay in, boats and barges.

When planning your trip, make sure you decide what places of interest you want to see.
Plzen is a city known worldwide as the home of Pilsner beer. It also has a beautiful architecture such as St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral.

Cesky Krumlov is another town with its own “Bohemian Castle” owned by the Bohemians in the late thirteenth century. It is a scenic town located along the Vltava river.

Put Prague at the top of your list of places to see. This culturally grand city has an 1100-year-old history and is filled with an abundance of interesting sites. The architecture itself is one to behold. Charles Bridge, the Kafka home and the Giant Metronome are just some of Prague’s amazing features.
